Signs Your FAAC Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing

• The keypad beeps but nothing moves. This usually means the control board is receiving the signal but a relay or fuse inside the keypad housing has failed. We have seen this on FAAC systems where ants nested inside the keypad and shorted the board. It is a replacement, not a cleaning job.
• Some keys work, some don’t. The membrane under the buttons has worn through in the spots pressed most often, typically the first and last digits of the code. The rest of the pad will follow within months, so replacing the whole unit now is cheaper than a second trip.
• The intercom sounds like it is underwater. The speaker cone has dried out or torn. Sherman Oaks summer sun bakes the rubber surround on the speaker until it cracks, and the voice becomes a muffled mumble that guests cannot understand.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check two things yourself before calling. First, confirm the gate works from the inside button or the remote, which tells you whether the problem is the outside unit or the operator itself. Second, look at the keypad face for cracking, discoloration, or a gasket that has pulled away from the housing. That inspection costs nothing and helps us arrive with the right part.

What we would not recommend is opening the keypad or intercom housing and poking around the wiring. These units run on low voltage, but they connect to a gate operator wired for 110 or 220 volts, and a misplaced probe or a crossed wire can send line voltage through the low-voltage circuit and damage the control board as well.
