• Keypad works in the morning but not in the afternoon heat. Heat expansion can break weak solder joints on the keypad’s small circuit board, or cause the faceplate to flex enough that contacts stop meeting. This is a classic Sherman Oaks summer symptom.
• Intercom buzzes or rings, but the gate won’t open. The audio circuit is alive, but the relay that sends the open command to the board has failed. The intercom still “works” as a noisemaker and nothing else.

There are a few things you can safely check before calling. Confirm the keypad has power by looking for a small LED or backlight. These are good, safe checks that sometimes reveal a simple cause.

What we’d steer you away from is opening the control box and probing the board terminals with a multimeter unless you know exactly what you’re looking at. BFT boards run on 24V control voltage, but the box also contains the capacitor and the mains connection for the motor. A wrong probe placement can damage the board or give you a shock. Same goes for swapping a keypad blindly: if you land the two comm wires on the wrong terminals, you can smoke the keypad’s output chip.
